Honoring Service. Serving Community.
Vietnam Veterans of America Sno-King Chapter #423VVA Sno-King Chapter #423 is a pillar of support for veterans and their families in North King and South Snohomish Counties. Through military honors, youth mentorship, and community events, we translate remembrance into action—honoring the past, serving the present, and inspiring the future.
For decades after Vietnam, VVA Sno-King Chapter #423 has been a steadfast pillar of support for all veterans, their families, and our community. Our mission is to honor the sacrifices of those who served while building a stronger future for all.
Our Commitment to Action:
- Honoring Sacrifice: We provide military honors for fallen service members and organize the annual community Memorial Day service.
- Supporting Future Leaders: We actively mentor and support local scouting groups and high school JROTC programs.
- Strengthening Our Community: We assist local veterans and their families in times of need.
We are dedicated to uniting veterans, families, and citizens to ensure that no service or sacrifice is ever again forgotten.
A Legacy of Honor, A Commitment to Service
What is the Vietnam Veterans of America?
Our Guiding Mission: A Vow to Our Fellow Veterans
The mission of Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is captured in a single, powerful promise:
“Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.”
For over 40 years, we have worked to fulfill that vow. Chartered by Congress in 1986, the VVA is a national Veterans Service Organization dedicated to improving the welfare of Vietnam-era veterans and their families.
What Makes the VVA Different?
We operate differently from many traditional Veterans Service Organizations. Our structure and philosophy are built on inclusivity and the power of our members’ voices.
- A Member-Driven, “Bottom-Up” Structure: Unlike organizations with a “Top-Down” hierarchy, we empower our local chapters. We, the members, tell our national leadership what we need accomplished in Washington D.C., and they respond. We are a member-driven organization.
- Families Are Members, not an “Auxiliary”: We were separated from our families once by war; we refuse to be separated again. Spouses, partners, siblings, and parents are integral to our chapter. They participate fully in our meetings and activities because we understand that an entire family serves and sacrifices.
- Volunteer Leadership: Our chapters are led by Presidents, not Commanders. We don’t own property or maintain paid staff at the state or chapter level. We are volunteers committed to a cause, meeting in shared community spaces across the state.
About Sno-King Chapter #423
Our local chapter has proudly been serving the communities of North King and South Snohomish Counties, with active members joining us from as far as Arlington and South Seattle since 1987.
While we share the national VVA mission, our chapter was formed with a specific focus:
- Honoring the Fallen: We provide military funeral honors to all comrades-in-arms, ensuring their service is remembered with dignity.
- Supporting Those Who Serve: We present the colors at community events and support those who serve our nation today.
- Educating the Next Generation: We visit schools to teach our youth that war is not a video game. It is a place of profound suffering, where young people die and survivors often carry mental scars for life.
- Advocating for the Missing: We remain committed to securing the release and fullest possible accounting of those still held in foreign captivity (POW/MIA).
This devotion to our cause has made the Sno-King Chapter one of the strongest in the state.
